The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Research Support Officer to blend support for scientific content development (data collection, analysis, literature review and writing) and research process management (organizing and collating reporting materials, light administrative duties, etc.).

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

Key Responsibilities:

  • In close collaboration with the Principal Scientist - Climate Change Adaptation, edit and prepare for publication outstanding deliverables
  • Assist in the organization of workshops, take notes and prepare workshop reports and other documentation of activities
  • Assist in communications with partners and other stakeholders
  • Aid in gathering, collating and synthesizing evidence of outcomes for reporting purposes
  • Data collection, analysis, write up and literature collection and synthesis
  • Occasional travel to rural field sites
  • Perform any other related duties as may be assigned

Requirements

  • Master of Science degree in either soil sciences, agronomy, land and water management, climate change or development studies
  • Minimum of three years relevant research experience post Masters degree
  • MS Office programs, internet explorer, Cloud storage applications, primary and secondary data collection and extraction.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS, GENSTAT, R programming language, and Atlas.ti, Kobo toolbox, SPSS.

Post location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya

Terms of Appointment

This position is at job level HG 13 and it is only open to Kenyan nationals. The position is a 3-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes pension, medical and other insurances.
