The World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) seeks to hire two Research Officer II – Focal Persons who will be members of CIMMYT Ethiopia located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).

Main Responsibilities:
- Serve as a focal person and represent the project and the World Vegetable Center in the respective project locations;
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the project implementation and ensure project activities are executed according to the timeline and objectives at the project site;
- Coordinate with all stakeholders, including farmers, cooperatives and partners, facilitate meetings, trainings and workshops and maintain stakeholder relations;
- Provide technical guidance and support to farmers and humanitarian organizations on best practices in vegetable production and adoption of recommended agricultural practices and technologies;
- Conduct regular visit to project sites to monitor progress and provide on-the-ground support;
- Engage with community leaders, local government structures mainly with the bureau of agriculture, to ensure their support and participation in the project;
- Ensure efficient use and administration of inputs and project resources;
- Provides training and technical guidance to stakeholders, local seed producers, private and public project partners in the vegetable seed production, preservation and good vegetable production technologies;
- Contributes to the project progress reporting and publication and represent the project on workshops and related events;
- Performs any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- Master’s degree in agricultural sciences, plant sciences, horticultural science, agronomy, or related field.
- Broad / specialized knowledge of methods, techniques and processes
Experience:
- Five years of relevant work experience preferably with an international non-governmental and humanitarian organization
Skills:
- Proven experience in managing agricultural projects, preferably in a development context.
- Ability to develop work plans, manage budgets, and oversee project implementation.
- Experience with sustainable agriculture, Proven track record of providing technical advising services;
- Team player with great communication skills in verbal and written English.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with partners and colleagues in a multi-cultural setting.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities to coordinate, guide and motivate project teams.
Duty Station: Mekelle, Tigray region and Dessie, Amhara region - Ethiopia.

Minimum Base salary:
- Birr 54,708 per month (Negotiable depending on salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment: This is a National Staff (NS) position, initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funds.
