The Position: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit an Assistant to Project Manager for the Livestock compact of the newly launched “Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation” (TAAT) project.

TAAT is a key priority of the African Development Bank’s agricultural transformation agenda also known as the Feed Africa Strategy. TAAT is essentially a knowledge- and innovation-based response to the recognized need for scaling up proven technologies across Africa aiming to boost productivity, and to make Africa self-sufficient in key commodities. ILRI leads the Livestock compact of TAAT.

ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain all TAAT project documentation in the institute’s project tracking system (including but not limited to annual budgets, signed contracts, invoices, technical reports, financial reports);
  • Provide administrative support for TAAT related issues including communications with African Development Bank (ADB) and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA);
  • Liaise with TAAT regional staff and partners for any administrative support assistance they may require;
  • Liaise with the relevant units/departments and partners to follow up on TAAT activities and support the approved procurement plan of the project;
  • In consultation with the Program Manager, follow up on deliverables of the TAAT annual work plan, ensuring due dates are met;
  • Gather inputs for the preparation of TAAT technical reports;
  • Assist with data collection and gathering, analysis and management of project documentation;
  • Update and maintain project records including inputting requests in the system for travel, office supply and procurement and follow up on approvals to ensure smooth running of the TAAT project;
  • Assist in ensuring effective communication regarding project activities within the TAAT team;
  • Create a list of electronic project documentation/files including reports, approvals and any other relevant documentation for historical record.

Academic and professional qualifications:


  • Bachelors’ Degree in Business Administration/Management with courses/certification on Project management being advantageous


  • At least 5 years’ project administration experience


  • Technical training in project management – desirable


  • Effective administrative skills
  • Effective communication and writing skills
  • Experience in facilitating teamwork and collaboration across multiple functions
  • Experience and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Grade: 2C

Minimum Base Salary: Birr 19,112 (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)

Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.
